JOB SUMMARY:

This position works under the general supervision of the Director and provides engineering support for the Energy Department including Electric and Gas Divisions.

Provides direction to Engineering Division to ensure compliance with TVPPA, NESC and ANSI codes. Provides system data on request.

Performs and approves engineering calculations related to line design and operation. Assists in system planning, develops equipment specifications as required.

Develops and recommends policies related to new service and line extension. Recommends and coordinates system maintenance and renovation.

Coordinates work by outside engineering firms on special projects. Investigates customer service complaints.20%

Performs other related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of an electric transmission and distribution system
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of overhead and underground electric distribution line construction
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of electrical engineering
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of a gas distribution system
  • Knowledge of occupational hazard and safety precautions
  • Ability to train new and existing personnel in engineering principles
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Ability to set up, operate and maintain engineering program on computer
  • Ability to apply TVPPA, NESC and ANSI codes to the Energy Department
  • Ability to administer emergency first aid and CPR
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule due to emergencies and planned systems shutdowns
  • Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the public and co-workers

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Consistent, in-person attendance is an essential function of this position
  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from an accredited four-year college or university in electrical engineering*
  • Four (4) to six (6) years of electric distribution engineering experience*
  • Valid driver's license

* Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Seven (7) to ten (10) years of electrical distribution engineering experience

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Physical:

Work requires use of a personal computer and tasks performed in an office setting such as moving about an office to access cabinets, etc. and moving objects that weigh up to ten pounds. Work involves driving to job sites and walking to inspect sites and facilities. Most work is done in an office environment.

Environmental:

This position primarily works in an office setting. May infrequently be exposed to noise and dirt and all extremes of weather in the field. Subject to call-out during emergencies or system shutdowns.
